These best external hard drives for Mac can work on most of the Mac OS X version including OS X 10.11, 10.12 Sierra and earlier Yosemite and 10.9 Mavericks. These portable external hard drivers are fully compatible for PCs (Windows, Linux Operating Systems) too.
Hi everyone I bought a second hand macbook pro 17inch late 2012 model. This mac is modified and the ram is upgraded and the hdd is also replaced with a ssd The problem is that this mac has windows installed on it as the only operating system. Therefore there are some other problems such as the speakers not working because the audio drivers are incompatible or not being able to use gestures on the trackpad. Also when i close the lid of the laptop, the computer automatically shuts down. Oh and I almost forgot.
IT FREEZES IN THE WINDOWS START UP SCREEN EVERY 9/10 TIMES. So at this point im pretty disappointed with my purchase.
I tried making a bootable usb to install mac os x sierra on it but the bootable usb wont be recognized. I tried many different ways to install mac os on it hoping it would fix the problems but no luck yet. So at this point im considering using the 'Hackintosh' method to install mac os. Its really ironic to use hackintosh to install mac os on a mac.
What do you guys think? I would appreciate any help as Im greatly desprate I paid a little too much money for this mac and originally thought it was a good deal!
Can't be done. Put the SSD in the Mac and install OS X. But first you need to fix the hardware problem with your Mac. The Mac is an early 2011 model. The ram is upgraded from 4 to 16 gb and the old HDD is replaced with a new ssd. What can be the issue? I tried internet recovery and bootable flash drive method.
Then I connected the SSD to my windows pc and noticed the format of the ssd was NTFS which I know from previous knowledge, it doesnt work with mac. Can that be the problem?
And if yes what format should I format it to? I already tried EXFAT but no luck with that either. You need to overwrite the filesystem. A default install should do this. See here: well thanks for your help but It seems like you are misunderstanding my situation.
The system does not have an operating system at the moment. So I dont have access to a Mac OSX running computer. I have tried installing mac os x using many different bootable usb drives but none of them are recognized by my system. I also tried internet recovery method which resulted in an ever lasting white screen. At this point I am looking for the source of the issue, not the 'approved ways' to solve them.
You said that the Windows install fails to start up 9 times out of 10. Combined with the fact that you can't get any joy booting from a bootable USB it looks like a hardware problem. But I can't possibly tell you exactly what the problem is.
Most likely problems are a faulty disk cable or a faulty logic board. You need to get an authorised Apple dealer to check out the machine. At the same time you could ask them to install OS X for you. This is probably not going to be cheap, so a better answer may be to ask the seller for your money back as, from what you say, the computer has never functioned correctly.
An external startup HD with Mac OS X 10.6.8 can be very useful especially if you want to use it to install Mac OS X 10.7 or even OS X 10.8. It can be used on different Macintosh computers and if you have a firewire HD the speed is acceptable.
If you run Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and you need to run PowerMac software, this could be helpful, and also it can help you out in case your HD crashes. You can easily startup holding the alt key and pick the HD or partition with the Mac OS X of your choice.
